"A few of us skied at Hex last year from an approach off 97 and were scolded by a guy who claimed to own the land we were on. I don't remember much about where we were. I've decided just to a avoid it.
Just a warning.

we made a trip a year or two ago on an "avy" day, and had fun, took the dog, etc, and was surprised that it was better than average skiing down and a bit better than the usual amabalis or kendall ridge. so i was surprised when someone mentioned it in an email:

Not saying it's impossible, but seems highly unlikely that anyone would ski from hwy 97 to the Hex mountain above Lake Cle Elum. Assuming the quote is incorrect, I'm guessing somebody accessed the trail via the road lookers' left above the Newport Creek parking area, which is private property, and also easily avoided. BTW - If you're looking to ski as opposed to hike, you'll likely find far better conditions around the Salmon la Sac sno park.
