Risers for skis but sinkers for boards?

I don't get it. For years, ski sellers have told me that i need to have 'risers' between ski and binding. Last weeks' thread about Sparks et al. split board bindings linked to comments wherein I read the praises of the new riders' gear that it allows a closer (and therefore firmer) attachment to the board. If this is true, then why do riders want to get down while skiiers are getting high? I don't get it.

Maybe it's just a different mentality. Skiers are high and boarders are grounded. Only kidding skiers!! ;D ;D ;D

It's really just an issue for splitboards in particular. It's not so much an issue for resort boards. More torsion flex with a splitboard than a solid and that means less control in turns. And I think that being closer to the board reduces torsion flex.

I'm not an engineer or mathematician, but that is my take from personal experience.

It wasn't that long ago I really enjoyed getting down while getting high! Ah, the bad ol' days.
