I just posted something on free beacon classes our foundation is offering, maybe you should send him and see how he responds to that.....Take a look at my posting and our classes....Best of luck....

I reccommend a trip to Alpental's (or Crystal's or Steven's) Beacon Basin

Bring a stopwatch and take turns measuring your search times.
After a good session:
You'll both be faster searchers
and
either
you'll be convinced that the old coot can save your ass
or
he will be convinced to buy a new beacon
or
you'll know not to ski with him if you have any doubts about snow stability.

Hey Randy, thanks for bringing up the beacon parks! I've been awaiting there arrival in WA (CO, UT has had these for years...). That's fantastic that both Alpental & Stevens have them!

Mount Baker had one put in just above the base of Chair 7 along skier's right during the last two seasons but I'm not sure they still have it since the signage for it disappeared.
