Alpental coming soon

Thought a new thread might be in order to give a heads-up on the offical start of the avalanche control season at Alp. A couple safety shots are planned for tomorrow (Thurs, Nov 19th) and very likely every new significant snowfall will bring another round. Looking at the snowpack yesterday and today - it's pretty likely that we will get some good slides . Best guess is that the Alp will be ready to run by mid to late next week if the snow comes the way NWAC is calling for. Quite a few folks moving around on the hill today, we took the time to chat with as many as possible but you can't get everyone that way. Pretty sure all the TAY regulars take this message to heart, but for the safety of all please pass the word that it really needs to be avoided from now through the end of the operating season.  Take pity on the pro staff and avoid the paths and starting zones at the Alpental area.  Thanks again -G

Heard a rumor about Thanksgiving.... can this be confirmed, denied, neither?

I appreciate the work and effort the guys are doing on this. However, does this statement apply to non-control days as well such as days when there is a break in the weather? Surely that would be fair game at this time with the requisite check at at the patrol shack, assuming anyone was even there? Of course when the season is in full swing I don't know why anyone would bother to skin up but thats another story in itself.
