I've had meadows lock me in the parking when they were not open. It was a pain in the butt finding the dude with the key.

My recommendation would be Mt Hood Meadows. They'll not stop you from skiing there.I'm thinking maybe some of the lower angle stuff at Meadows might be more grass, less rock. As far as I know if they're not open, they can't prevent you from touring there right?

Off subject but a few years ago I had an employee at skibowl try to stop me from hiking. They were not open for the season yet or doing any control work. I told him to $@#% off. At the top I ran into a patroller who was doing the same thing as me. He told me its a grey area. Any thoughts?
I'd say it's a gray area. Yes, Ski Bowl and the other ski areas are on public land, but they hold the permit.
And to powski3, The ski areas on Hood typically are the best places to go in early season.
