The 2009 NSAS will happen October 24 at the REI flagship store in Seattle. Talks start at 8:30 and continue through the day. Registration starts at 8:00. Following is the agenda.

9:30-10:15 Rob Gibson (Snoqualmie Pass Patrol Director)
10:15-10:45 BREAK
10:45-11:30 Ted Steiner (BNSF Railroad Avalanche Safety Consultant)
“ Complexities of a modern forecasting program”
11:30-12:15 Simon Trautman (CAIC Forecaster), “Wet Snow Characteristics”
12:15-1:45 LUNCH
1:45-2:30 Greg Johnson (CAA Forecaster), “The Avalanche Terrain Exposure Scale - An Introduction”
2:30-3:15 Mike Stanford (WSDOT avalanche supervisor) “Management of an Auto-Feed”
3:15-3:45 BREAK
3:45-4:30 Thomas Exner (ACMG Mountain Guide, Researcher) “Deep Slab Instabilities”
4:30-8:00pm NO HOST Beer Garden
This is the third such summit. It's an unique opportunity to keep on top of the latest research, experience, and practice about predicting, avoiding, and surviving avalanches.

NSAS is intended for ski patrollers, forecasters, ski
guides, search and rescue teams, as well as any number
of other occupations that occur on and around snow. The
content of NSAS is relevant to professionals and
recreationalists alike.
