Doesn't seem like a good idea to me, either. I might be open to one, maybe two small backcountry campsites within the restricted zone but given the barren nature of the area, waste management & water would be issues. Back when I was in college, I wanted to do some research on the revegetation of Mt St Helens so I guess I'll always support the research efforts. Both Charlie & Peter (mentioned in the article) have been in place since at least the late 1980s..

Put in a lift, we need more ski resorts to spread people out and save the powder.
Powders an endangered commodity and should be protected too you know. :'(

Interesting theory that a lift could preserve powder.   ???   Sorry Scotty, but between global warming and Wall St. devouring the middle-class, I'd bet on fewer ski areas (probably with fewer skiers, tho) in the future, not more.  I think the best you can hope for is that the Park Service doesn't get ahold of it.   ;)

Scotty, you're a agent provocateur in the best sense of the word ;)

AKA "a deep-cover agent who feigns enthusiastic support while tempting the target to incriminate himself/herself through action or words ."

I'll start pouring lift footings this weekend.
