WASHINGTON PASS AVALANCHE OBSERVATION AT 6600 FEET SHOWS THE
TEMPERATURE HOLDING STEADY AT 32 DEGREES...A FEW LUCKY HIKERS WERE
PROBABLY TREATED TO A FEW INCHES OF WET SNOW ABOVE 6000 FEET IN THE
NORTH CASCADES LAST NIGHT AND THIS MORNING.
The relevant telemetry:

We finally got an honest cold front! - the first one since mid-May.
Freezing levels are currently expected to rise back up to 15-16,000' the first part of next week but unlike the nasty ridge a couple of weeks ago this one looks to be not nearly as warm and much less persistent. It wouldn't be surprising if the freezing levels don't get quite as high as the current forecast.
After this long hot summer I'm looking forward to more cool periods as fall approaches.
