A ski from the summit would be a first, and a damn proud first at that.

So Dan...Ptor just reminded me that Hans Kammerlander has skied the top 400m of K2 in 2001...only to downclimb from the Bottleneck after seeing a Korean climber fall to his death.  See comments:

**Pretty sure those are Fredrik's skis that Michele is holding in that picture...and I vote that the picture of Michele above with the Trabs was taken on K2.

(And no...I didn't see this thread before I posted about K2 on TetonAT.com.  I guess us skiers are often thinking the same thing!)

Either way, now they're both dead:

Wow, condolances out to fam and friends.  That is a wicked mountain.

Himalayan lines are gnarly.  Here's a pic a I took of some (not the same area as K2, but same granduer) while trekking through the Khumbu in '06:

Kantega and Numbur Himal

After hearing about Fred's death on K2, I checked this forum to see if there was any more information. Needless to say the timing on the original post in now a sad irony. Please keep it safe people, no reason to die or get seriously hurt for the need of one's ego, no matter how "proud" or "sick" the goal.
