Howard Mt-Mastiff traverse anybody done this? was created by gout
Thinking about trying this on sunday. My buddy who suggested this has a bit of a masochistic streak when it comes to trip planning so I was hoping to find out something about it ahead of time.
Merritt Lk trailhead to Mastiff and traverse to Howard.
thanks

I did that last year - except we went the other way. We went Rock-Howard-Mastiff and then out the Merrit Lk trailhead. It was (for me at least) a very big day. I cant remember the mileage but the elevation was just under 8k. Also, the skiing was OK, but its more about the tour for that route. You hit three nice peaks and spend a lot of time in the alpine. A beautiful but painful endurance fest.

Skied the east slope of Mastiff once, a nice 1800 vertical moderate run. Take an ice ax/self arrest ski pole for the ridge approach from Pt. 6125 in order to traverse below some rocks. I agree with hwy2 that a multi peak traverse looks better west to east: East or north slope of Rock ski descent---to east or north slope Howard ski---- to east slope mastiff descent. going other way might be too melted out on south slope Howard.
Anyone been up there or look up that way at snowmelt??? I haven't been around much to gauge melt out.

I've been looking at that ridge from Wenatchee on my daily run or bike and the east side of Howard looks pretty good from that distance. Looks to be melting out along the ridge between Howard and Mastiff.
