Man, I took that top plate off of a friend's ski in a hut in BC, to replace the volcano.  I'm still amazed that I found all the parts.

That was quite amusing to watch!

Dynafits are clearly the best binding for both touring ease and apres ski entertainment :)

As I live where Dynafit parts are non existent, I'd be very interested in hearing how you made out with Salewa.

Amusing for you maybe -- I was trying to figure out whether Kirsten would fit into my boots for the rest of the week...

Replacing the "volcano" does *not* require any binding disassembly -- the two #10 torx screws underneath the top plate are quite easy to access.

BTW, if you don't regularly carry a bit driver, yet still want to have a #10 torx in case you ever need to tighten up the top plate screws or replace a volcano, stop at a bike shop and see if they have any of the little torx drivers that come with Avid disk brakes. (They're like the little throw-away allen wrenches you get with home-assembly furniture.)

JS - Don't you have to have an allen wrench type torx bit to do that though? Would a regular bit driver work?

From memory.

Ha! Yeah, I know that now. Figured it out the hard way...

Although I think we still had to take the heel unit off the ski to get access -- perhaps the skis were too wide? Can't remember...
