Hiking up without skins - Crampons, spikes, shoes? was created by jam
I don't own skins or a split board ($$ issue), so at this time of the year, what system would work best for climbing: Crampons or Micro-spikes or Snowshoes?
My main target is Mt Hood (up to Hogsback, but no further).

Depends on snow conditions the day you go. I've rarely needed crampons on the climb to the Hogsback and if you do you might be too early in the day for good boarding down. Normally by this time of year the snow is consolidated enough that you won't need snowshoes.

My thoughts from being in a similar position to you last year.
If you are doing the trip in softboot snowboard boots I would strongly suggest crampons and snowshoes. Crampons at a minimum. Take crampons even if you have snowshoes just in case, for the pitch just below Crater Rock and on up to Hogsback. The softboots have no bite on firm or even slightly soft snow and will require a lot more effort than if you have a travel method that is stable and does not slip backwards or sideways each step.
I did Hood, Adams, and South Sister last year in snowshoes and crampons before I got my splitboard. They work well. Use poles if you can get a hold of some.

I'd take crampons if they were available. Snowshoes with a good bite on them would work too. You could make do with either. As Buell said, poles would be nice too. This is from the perspective of snowboard soft boots w/o Vibram soles.
