Hi All- Looking for current info to see if the road to Monte Christo is open to the gate, and if the road is clear for mtn bikes. I've never been to the area, but I understand that it's possible to ride a mt bike from some point to the old town of Monte Christo (and beyond?).

If you've been there recently, enlighten me please. Headed there on Sunday. Thanks!

I went to the Granite Falls side exactly one year ago. There was continuous snow from the Deer Creek gate, and the NFS web site says the road is now gated there. Doubt the Darrington side access is open to Barlow Pass. The road to Monte Cristo is 100% snow for sure. Even later, a mountain bike trip will involve some sporting creek crossing.

I was thinking about XC from the Deer Creek gate to the Vesper parking lot this weekend just for views.

As of 5/21, capitalization courtesy of NFS

"Gate at Deer Ck (12.3 mi east of Verlot) MAY be open for Memorial Day weekend. Road may be plowed to Barlow Pass.

Snow approx 7 feet deep at Barlow Pass. "
