Adams Daytrip? was created by lordhedgie
Searching around the trip reports, I've seen a number of posts for multi-day Mt Adam trips, including a four-day circumnavigation. Having moved to Ellensburg, Mt Baker isn't the short daytrip it used to be, and I'm really not a big fan of the NPS and the management of Rainier. Looking at Mt Adams every day, it looks like there ought to be good summer skiing on her north flanks -- anyone have experience or advice for skiing on Adams?

SW Chutes is the classic. Climb from Cold Springs TH to Piker's Peak up Suksdorf Ridge.
I've done it 3 times , always in the first week of July when it' s been in the 90's at sea level.
Early season attempts usually have access road issues.
Use the search function as there's a lot of good Tr's on Adams.

There've been quite a few widely scattered reports about skiing on the north aspects of Adams. I can't point you to any in particular, but they tend to be late spring/early summer trips. Not many people go back there. Try looking for Adams, Lyman and/or Lava Glacier trips.
Hope that helps.

Some quick googling yields the following links:
www.turns-all-year.com/cd-tour/goldhome4/hp208/index.html
www.alpineslider.com/AdamsLymanSouth.htm
www.turns-all-year.com/skiing_snowboardi...b6cfa1&topic=879.new
The FS posts occasional road reports. Try calling the Packwood RS. The key to making the N side of Adams work well is timing your trip so that you can get close to summer TH's in an auto but there is still snow left. If you go, please post photos!
Good luck,
Micah

this post is old and the pic is MIA. But if the road melts out, the "diamond" lookers right of the north ridge is possible in a day. The hike in is on a good trail (fast) but it's about 4-5 miles long as I recall.
here's a photo from the air:

and one from the hike in:

looks like a diamond or South America from a distance. It's 30-40 degrees and you can climb the north ridge or the snow field itself. Tricky getting off the ridge and onto the top, but that route was interesting. Good luck!

That diamond route looks pretty enticing. I'm glad to see there are at least some one-day trips I can enjoy. Now I guess I need to wait for the road to melt and start looking for partners....
