Has anyone been in to ski Mt Curtis Gilbert and approached from the Bear Creek Mountain/Section 3 Lake trailhead? I couldn't find any TRs of this route in the archives. Becky shows a traverse from the shoulder of BCM, past Tieton peak and dropping into the Conrad Basin. Looks like it might be more pleasant than humping up the South Fork, should be able to drive to the snowline on 1204 and hopefully ski from the car.

Also, I can't seem to find any info about the 1204 on the GPFS website, does anyone know when it usually melts out, or where the current snow line is?

Any beta would be greatly appreciated.

Filbo probably does (and several others). If he doesn't notice the thread and respond shortly, try a PM. I'm thinking about taking a peek this weekend via Hogback - last shot at the WP chairlift..

One might also consider the possibility of slides and damaged roads. There has been much damage of slopeside GP road system, especially in the Cowlitz drainage from this winters heavy rain storm. The GPNF hasn't yet (as of yesterday) updated their site info re access as it appears to be still to early to really know

You might try the html pages of the Packwood Highway Shopper ( www.highwayshopper.com/ ) which comes out on Wednesdays.  They often have selected snow depths & more current road info than the GPNF website.  Nothing specific to your question in the April 22nd edition, but it does list an information number for Naches Ranger District:  Doug Jenkins (509) 653-1468

I've approached Curtis Gilbert a couple of times up Conrad Creek to Conrad Lake. It's a fairly direct way in with some interesting routefinding. From Conrad Lake all the Goat Rocks peaks are yours to pick off. Also have gone in via N Fork Tieton to McCall Basin. That's kind of a slog through viewless forest until you get to the Basin.

If memory serves, the Hummels have done a lot of Goat Rocks trips.
