Stumbled across while searching for other, less creepy, information.
Both these articles are old and maybe some of the facts need updating.
But, what was particularly noteworthy and creepy to me is that according to the information there, in the last 25 years there are at least four people (Hartonas/Vakili; Kampe; Harcoe) missing and or never recovered all in the fairly near vicinity of Camp Muir. (Another, Tietjen, was initially missing but body found 2 years later.) Gives you some perspective on what I think many of us think is an easy, can't-go-wrong kind of destination for a ski trip.
According to Lowell's excellent site, the Kampe incident was the inspiration for the volunteer ski patrol at Paradise:

There was a day last year when I was up at Muir. It was a beautiful sunny day, 50 degrees at least. And this was just days after the June incident where a person died from exposure/hypothermia less than 1/3 mile from the huts (Anvil). That was also creepy. Another TAY thread from that very incident ...

My most creepy near-Muir memory is falling into a crevasse on the Cowlitz up to my waste right on the bootpack (crossing from Cathedral to Muir) when there was nary a telltale sign to indicate its lurking presence.
More justification for my emphasis that "we're all always risking it out there."
