30m rope for rap off of sharkfin col to boston?

Is a 30m rope good enough to rapp onto the boston glacier from sharkfin col? That would be 15m of rapp distance

From the lowest notch, I have always rappelled with at least a 50m rope (about 80ft rappel). You might be able to get away with a shorter rope in spring, but it's a gamble.

There is a slightly higher (I believe) notch to the right (SE) when approaching from Boston Basin. I think you may be able to scramble there from the lowest notch, but I've never done it. This notch typically has a shorter rappel in spring, but I think it goes bad later in the season. I've never gone that way, so I can't offer any personal experience. I've always used the lower notch with a longish rope.

I took a quick look at the Beckey, Nelson and Volken guidebooks and none of them offers details about the alternate notch.

Thanks for the beta - I think we'll just bring two 30m ropes so we each have one for glacier travel.

The alternate pictured above rapps out of a v-notch. In spring who knows, in july it took 30m to get down to easy snow. That said, the terrain is mostly 4th/low 5th I think so you'd likely be able to build a midway anchor on nuts...

FWIW, I have done the alternate notch twice in August. With a 50 meter rope it required some down climbing.

We just completed the Forbidden this past week 4-16 thru 19. 30 meter rope fine for the rap off Sharkfin right now- maybe not after a lot of melt out.
