Sports/Ski Optometrists in Seattle was created by climberdave
Anyone out there know of a good Optometrist in the Phinney Ridge area that understands the needs of skiers (fogging, prescription glacier glasses/goggles, contacts etc)?
Better yet; is anyone out there an Optometrist?
Thanks in advance

Last year I had an guy at Roosevelt Vision Clinic, Phone: 206-527-2987, 7001 Roosevelt Way NE, Seattle, WA 98115 put his darkest prescription lenses in my old favorite non prescription glacier glasses. I also had him mirror them as that was what the old lenses had. (Frames are black plastic with leather side shields, Bausch & Lomb. They happen to look identical to some REI ones I had from 1970s). He wasn't sure if he could do it because "of the curve of the old frames". But I said I don't care if you break em so please give it a try. He did and they work beautifully. Have skied in bright sun up to about 11,000 feet and they certainly seemed dark enough. Man can I ski better now that I can see. My wife has used this office for years and they always provided good service. I settled on them because of her good experience and after running into several dead ends on some promising recommendations. I don't have a record of exactly what he made; color, tint grade, degree of mirroring, etc so if you need that PM me and I will give the Doc permission to give you that info. Give them a call. Good luck
Eric

They're not in Seattle, but I mail ordered my prescription glacier glasses from Opticus in Boulder. I was hesitant to do it sight unseen, but have been very pleased with the results. Not cheap, in any sense of the word. Got an eye exam at my usual eye doc and sent them the prescription. Only thing I paid special care to was to get a good measurement of the interpupillary distance in addition to the rest of the prescription. Almost certainly the nicest glasses I've ever owned.

I went to Davis Optical in the U District on the advice of someone at Swallows Nest in 1991. They custom made Rx lenses for a very old pair of french glacier glasses with side shields a good friend gave me. They made a new pair of lenses for me a few years ago. They make the lenses right there on site and can work with you on the tint / darkness and custom cutting to your frames. Also, only a day or two turnaround.
