Olympic Hot Springs was created by Mjölnir
I'm thinking of taking an overnight tour with the family (Wife + 2 year old) to Olympic hot springs. From what I remember, I'll have to ski the road in, so Nordic skis are probably the best option.

From others that have been in there in the winter - is the road blockaded and do you have to hike portions of the road based on the snow level, or can you usually just drive to the snow line?

The road is currently gated at Observation Point. This leaves you about a 1 1/2 to 2 mile hike to the trailhead. In my experience, it is better to snoshoe or boot up to the springs when the road is gated here. The trail gets so much traffic that it becomes an easy walk due to the booted snow. On, the other hand, if the gate is closed at the dam due to snow, ski it!, because not nearly as many people will have gone up. You might want to bring a 20/30 foot length of rope. The last time i was up there (3 weeks ago), the drop down to the split log bridge over the creek was steep, icy, and damn slippery! a little bit of rope to lower yourself down would be a plus. Good luck and post a tr if you do it!

Also,
Check the Park's "hotline". The number is 360-565-3131. The report should tell you if the road is gated at the lake or higher up. You can also call the Park dispatcher at 360-565-3000 and talk to a person. Separately, but related to this, the Sol Duc road is currently open as far as the resort. They have not yet opened it to the trailhead.
