Is it known if the subject was wearing a beacon and others had beacons+probes+shovels?
Theoretically in mock scenarios six people can find and assess ABCs for three victims in 30 minutes, but in a real scenario I can imagine acting non-optimally.
(Also, not to be critical, but in my mind, if I was part of a group and multiple of us, not just one, ended up buried in an avalanche, then we REALLY screwed up)

This article suggests that the victim's group included very experienced BC skiers and that they took precautions: Wallowa Chieftain article
We were a few miles away, in McCully Basin, last Thursday through Sunday. There was significant wind loading, and our lead guide (Chago of WAH) found a buried hoar layer about 30cm down on some aspects.
