I had to share this here as I find it amazing!!

"Even though we've artfully stripped down the model over several years so that it's as simple and efficient as possible, it still takes us a day to grow one of these things," he says.

Thanks for sharing. Pretty amazing. I also noted the other referenced article that said that different types of snowflakes could be recognized at different stages of the same storm.

Interesting article, thanks.

How about some real snowflakes?  This is an amazing and comprehensive website about snowflakes, made by Ken Libbrecht, a physics professor at Caltech: www.snowcrystals.com

His snowflake photographs are very impressive, as are his discussion of snowflake physics and their efforts to grow snowflakes in the lab. His books are amazing too, I've bought three of them over the past few years, starting with his first book, The Snowflake: Winter's Secret Beauty, then the little Ken Libbrecht's Field Guide to Snowflakes, and just days ago the coffee-table book, The Art of the Snowflake.

BTW, even though Libbrecht is a professor in my field of atomic physics, I've never met him and do not know him. So this is not any kind of buddy promotion or covert advertisement.

Very inspiring images for me. Who was it that said (paraphrasing ?) " There are two ways to live your life ~ one is as though nothing is amazing, the other is as though everything is amazing". Thanks for sharing..
