I sacrificed my knees on the Lanham Lake trail today. And my pride, trying to ski out on the dangerous trap crust. Ullr should accept that as a testimony of my heartfelt desire and devotion to snow. Oh, and there were 8 of us plus Anna the snowdog in the car, so as we went through the Money Creek tunnel, we honked the appropriate number of times to acknowledge Ullr's power over the snow.
It was snowing lightly, but no new depth worth talking about. Hike in was fun, ski out was a survival workout. I don't think my style and grace converted any of the many slowshoers. If anything, my loud scritching and wild pole planting just prior to a grunting, thudding crash landing, embedded a fear of skiing deep into their plodding hearts. Oh well, maybe ski prosletyzing is not my thing. Now if Ullr provided 6" of new snow, that ski out through the big trees would be amazing!
