telemark binding installation questions and help?!

i have a set of karhu rox skis that do not have bindings on them currently (they did have them installed at one point).

i was also given a set of BD riva z bindings with G3 risers i want to install.

it seems that the process is not really all that difficult if you are confident with drilling and lining things up correctly (which i am).

the one question i have (and i am 99% sure i have the right answer) is where on the ski do i mount the binding?? i know i know, a dumb question.

now the answer i have come to is this. the skis have the center/3pin line marked on them. nice of karhu to do that. so in looking at the G3 Targa site i found this PDF - www.genuineguidegear.com/pdfs/Targa_Binding.PDF

which shows the location in reference to this 3pin line. so deductive reasoning tells me to follow this template for the location relative to the marked line on the ski and i have done things correctly.

can someone with more knowledge than i (having never installed telemark bindings myself) let me know if this all seems correct.

i know i could take them to a place an have them installed but that would be no fun and way less educational.

thanks

Pins at chord center is the usual mounting point, I believe. That's where I've mounted my bindings in the past. With fatter skis, and twin tips, a slightly forward of CC mount is often nice. The other option is pins at the center of the running surface (CRS), which I think ends up similar to a CC mount plus a few centimeters, depending on the shape of the ski.

here are the ski dimensions, the length is 175.

Dimensions: 110-73-98

so they have some shape....thoughts on this given the dimensions?

there is a picture about 2/3rds of the way down the page here also - www.telemarktips.com/SkiRev03_04.html

chord center is typically marked on the skis; if not you can measure it yourself.  Mount so the pins are lined up with chord center.  Mark your drill holes with a pen or something, pull the binding, and tap a pilot hole with a nail into each pen mark.  put some duck tape around the base of your drill bit (measure it by comparing the lenght of the bit to the height of the ski) so you dont dimple your bases when you drill.  drop in some wood glue or binding epoxy, set the screws by hand.

and dont forget the beer!

Measure twice.

Drill once.

Drink AFTER (and/or during).

Good luck!
