Now a researcher at Simon Fraser University at Burnaby, B.C., is trying to profile the thrill-seekers who duck under resort ropes and head out into the wild country.

THRILLS! WOOOO!!

Good lord... it's like all the people at work who ask me if I'm "in it for the RUSH!!!" Like we're all at a casting call for a Mountain Dew commercial.

Come on fellas, hop in the XTerra!

Ha!  No, I'm just making fun of the Xterra ad campaign.  Believe me, I'm in no position to make fun of anyone's car.  Do all your doors open?  Can you get through a rainstorm without a small lake developing in the backseat footwells?

You're better off than I ;)

It appears the less people experience nature, the more they come to depend on TV, stories, news and movies to fill in the blanks. Unfortunately, those often skewed sources are poor substitutes. I see the same sort of 2nd hand learning in many of the movies I watch. People just need to get outside and experience more real living I think. It would sure help with this country's weight problem, which certainly costs a lot more than a few deaths in the outdoors.
