09/10 Skis K2 Backside Lineup was created by Ritalin Kid
Not sure if any of you were as excited as I was to hear about K2's new Backside lineup.
I've seen a couple K2 dudes sking around on the Sidestash up at Crystal. If anyone else is interested...dimensions are listed below. The Darkside sounds like a lotta fun to me!
3 constructions: men's cap, women's cap, and sidewall.
men's cap:
1. coomback 119-102-121 tip rocker
2. backlash 129-92-115 tip rocker
3. wayback 124-88-111
4. backup 125-82-110
5. backlight 118-74-103
6. backout 114-72-99
women's cap:
1. gotback 135-102-121 tip rocker
2. payback 129-92-115
3. sheback 121-80-107
sidewall:
1. darkside 156-128-144 full rocker
2. sidestash 139-108-127 full rocker
3. hardside 131-98-119 full rocker

Thanks for the heads up on the new gear.
Just the other day on our tour we discussed that the K2 was dropping their telemark lineup and making a AT/Telemark non-specific ski. No more screw holes in their skis is a good idea with all the newer fangled bindings with various screw hole arrangements. Merging AT/Tele seems like the right thing to do.

Have to say not much in the K2 line has impressed me in the last decade. When I ride my bike past the vacant factory on Vashon, or boat by the owner's house I have less than nice thoughts about another outfit gone to China. The salt in the wound came when they bought out Karhu and put their ops oversees too. Okay, clearing the bellows of bad smoke; not I can move on...
I suddenly like some design concepts from K2 again, I think since my first pair of Extremes (when I was 12, just like Glen Plake's, OMG!).The Coombas are sweet. I'm tempted to demo some Pontoons. But I hope the Darkside offers a good rival to the Megawatts...maybe they can do super fat lighter? I'd appreciate anyone's feedback on the super-fat skis they've rocked...over 120 in the waist fat. Any word on how this will effect Karhu? Their line is slim this year, and seems to have a few one-ski-does-it-alls.

Stewie bought the BD megawatts and seems to be enjoying them. Can't get much of a feedback from him other than they are fun and easy to ski powder with although he said they "took some getting used to on the groomers", which is to be expected.
He's got Fritschi's on them and bought skins and that's going to be a heavy set up for touring, but he's young!!
I'll let you try my 120mm DPS skis sometime to get a feel for the super fats but they are AT set up and as long as you are willing to convert to the darkside for a wee bit, you are more than welcome to try them.

these are pretty fat. Lighter than megawatts and they come with inserts as an option, which I happen to like.

I'd have to track down some boots my size first...I'm sure your foot is twice the size of mine. Not sure if your son would be a close fit, or if he'd be willing to share...I'm a MONDO 25 (Garmont).
Wait, wait, wait...am I really considering locking down? This is crazy talk!
