Hwy 165 to Mt Rainier closure? was created by Big Hurt Bob
Hello,
I have been into spray park in early spring a number of times to climb Ptarmigan Ridge and to ski in spray park. That time of year I have been able to drive Hwy 165 to where it is gated at Paul Peak trail head.
Does anyone know if Hwy 165 is drivable to Paul Peak trailhead in mid winter (February/March) or if it is too snowy?
TIA
BHB

Was hoping to get up to Muir this weekend, but the Rainier site states that the road is closed from Longmire to Paradise due to road damage. hope it doesn't last TOO long.

It is a long slog we had to hike 10 miles just to make it to
mowich
and that was in April.

Yeah, like Kyle said, early April we had about 4 miles of snow before we even got to the park entrance. Paul Peak TH is beyond that. We rounded at 10 miles, but IMHO (and it could have been the vortex feeling of the road), it was longer than that. Either way, you can't ski the road. If you're "skooging" techniques are down, then that works. Otherwise it is a LOT of skinning.
If you have a sled, then you might be able to get up to the park entrance. If you have a sled and are thinking of doing that, you should let us know!
