Skin trimming questions was created by Chuck C
Last weekend I trimmed up some BD Ascension STS skins for one pair of my skis. I was looking at them today (they are on cheat sheets) and the part that I looped though the tip loop has come apart from the sticky part I folded it onto. I have them being held with a clamp right now. I know the adhesive is supposed to release from itself but these are just sitting there folded up waiting for the rain to change back to snow and haven't been tugged on at all. I also trimmed up a set from ClimbingSkinsDirect for different skis and those are holding nicely.

Anyone have a suggestion on how to make these stick together better? I was considering running them through the sewing machine but don't know if the needle is strong enough.

A few years ago I found a single medium width skin with parallel edges.  I cut it in half lengthwise and planned to sew on webbing loops to make a set of cheap skinny skins.  No shoe/boot repair shop I took them to would touch them, claiming the glue would foul their machine.  I ended up stapling them, which sounds crazy I know, but actually worked.   :D
I could understand not trying this with your new ones, but think twice before using the wife's machine. Maybe a few hand stitches?

I had the same problem with a pair of skins and as vogtski says, I just picked up a paper stapler and rammed a few in there right below the tip loop.

After some time the staples fell out but the loop strip never came apart again!

I used Duct Tape around the loops. Worked great and also was easy to remove when it came time to re-glue. When I re-glued, I cut off part of the nylon strip in the tip area so the folded areas would adhere to each other better. So far so good.

What Ron said.

Two "staples" made with a speedy stitcher and a couple of square knots. Quick, permanent, yet easy to remove. Just cut two strings and pull them out.
