dynafit heelpiece issue was created by Eli3
I recently had a post break on my heelplate on my dynafit comforts - they sent me a warranty replacement (the whole back assembly!), which works great. However, the old twisting piece (red volcano version) does not fit on the new post. There seem to be tabs in the hole that prevent it from sitting far enough down to put the big screw piece in - can i just chip these tabs off? Anyone else have this issue?

tabs in heel piece:

Interesting problem...you might try looking around www.wildsnow.com Lou has lots of info you dynafit bindings.

I would also be calling (or emailing) Dynafit too...

Good luck

Did the Dynafit people send you just the heelplate, or did they send you an entire rear assembly? Since the heelplate doesn't work with your Comfort heelpiece, I recommend asking Dynafit to provide you with an entire assembly that works.

I should've clarified - they sent me a whole new heel piece and mounting plate. I'm sure i'll break another one, and like to cary a spare on longer tours.

That makes sense. If it was me, I'd probably grind off the tabs and see if it fits. The old heel piece has little value as is, so you don't have much to lose.

It does make me wonder why they changed the design. Maybe they did it to prevent precisely what you're trying to do. Maybe some other dimensions have changed slightly, and they wanted to deliberately make the parts incompatible.

Assuming that to be the case, I'd still be willing to modify the part to create an emergency backup. Just don't sue Dynafit if you have any problems with it.

All the Dynafit heel assemblies I have do not contain those nubs inside the plastic upper heel piece. The heel plate post fits flat up into the upper heel piece and rotates 360 degrees when assembled.  I'd like to see the original post that came with that heel piece.  I'm wondering if Dynafit hasn't attempted a fix for the the occasional unplanned rotation of the heel assembly into ski mode from climbing mode (usually the left ski, and usually when skinning in deep heavy snow) by putting an internal stop in the assembly?

(P.S. Don't tell Scotty I mentioned this... I told him all Dynafits performed flawlessly if the user had but a modicum of mechanical intelligence ;))
