I heard (third-hand) that the lodging at Crystal has seen a higher level of bookings than normal, suggesting that people are staying closer to home.

That was the impression I got from he NPR piece. Destination-only resorts (such as the ones that you fly into, rent a car or stay "hostage" to the resort and its amenities) are suffering as people look for "cheaper" forms of recreation vacationing. Lift rates are still astronomically beyond my budget, but it is all relative I guess.

I've been out twice to the lifts down here in Oregon, and have noticed less than normal visitors at both Willamette Pass and Hoodoo. The higher lift ticket prices have me staying away from the resorts a little more than normal, but the high avy danger is keeping me out of the backcountry this last week.
