Anybody got brilliant Tour ideas within 2 hours drive of smack-dab-in-the-middle-of-the-damn-state-Moses Lake?

Any worth objectives near Mission Ridge?

More importantly any other folks looking for a short day east of the crest?

We Ellensburgers enjoy skiing at Elk Heights, just 15 miles west of town off I-90. Get off the freeway at Elk Heights, Exit 93. From the off ramp, turn left and cross to the south side of the interchange onto Elk Heights Rd. By a collection of mailboxes, a road, marked by a large yellow sign, leads west into the LT Murray Game Reserve. This road eventually tops out on South Cle Elum Ridge in about 3 miles. Shorter, steeper logging roads ascend the ridge more quickly. Best is to find Green Dot road maps put out by DNR or WDFW. Great views of the Stuarts and into the Taneum Creek drainage from the ridgetop. Turns possible when/if the snowpack gets deep enough.

Thanks for the beta Glenn. I infer from your post that we are not yet there for coverage?

On light gear, I toured up the main road yesterday on a snowmobile track and it was quite good. Off track travel was arduous due the half foot of fresh that fell the night before. Snowshoeing friends exhausted themselves going up one of the steeper routes. I'd be cautious about skiing for turns until more snow falls. There's maybe 18" on the ground with no real base to it.

That's what I had feared, I'll keep it in mind for future trips
