I wear a Giro Fuse and it is pretty light. There are great vents that you can open or close and you can remove the ear warmer parts in the spring.
I actually prefer it to a hat for comfort.

I'd love to wear a helmet for BC use but they are super heavy.

I have been looking at the
Liberty Mountain Sky Helmet
for ski mountaineering use. It is light (250 grams) and rated for climbing but with foam construction like a ski helmet. If anyone has any experience with this helmet I would like to hear your input.
I currently also use a Giro helmet (Giro 9 I think) which I like for lift serviced days but I have not been touring with a lid. It is probably not a wise compromise but I can't stand a helmet dangling off of the back of my pack and most days I am running too hot to wear it climbing despite the venting ports. But yeah, a helmet has saved my ass more than once inbounds. When I retired my last one, it had quite a few good dents in it that I was glad were not in my skull.

I have been wearing a climbing helmet off and on for skiing. Pros were I didn't have to buy another, light, vented well. Cons?

I personally do the same with a Grivel climbing helmet for Spring skiing and more ski mountaineering stuff; not as much padding for high speed impacts, but better than just your skull.

In regards to bike helmets not being rated for those types of impact, it's not that different than what you might get on a bike at speed. Granted it might not be ideal but it's likely better than nothing which is what I currently use (or don't use).

Wearing a helmut . Sometimes it a just a simple difference of being able to finish a day of skiing or touring versus a trip to ski patrol clinic or being evacuated by touring friends.
