Hello, I'm a lifelong nordic ski racer who's now moving into tele. I'm starting to accumulate gear and was hoping to get some input. I have a pair of Garmont Venus', so now I'm on to skis and bindings. There's a good sale on Black Diamond Mystic's and Ethic's which I'm thinking of capitalizing on. I will be touring and on groomed slopes. The Mystic comes in 167 and Ethic in 158, I'm 5' 4". Any advice you can give would be much appreciated.
Thanks!

The Ethics are very nice skis, but get a little chatty on groomers and the Mystics are a women’s version of the Ethic, even lighter and softer so my guess would be even chattier.  The  size difference would be the largest selling point for me.

Mystic 167cm: 110-79-100mm, 6lbs1oz (2.75kg)
Ethic   158cm: 108-79- 98mm   6lbs.6oz. (2.80kg)

The Mystic, with more side cut, will be easier to turn and the wider shovel will keep your tips up in deeper snow.

At 5'4" (weight?) who's looking for both in and out of bounds (carrying a pack too) it comes down to how comfortable are you with a larger ski?  My roommate at 5'10 and 165lbs has the 167 Ethics and loves them.  I had a pair of 176 Ethics, but at 5'6 and 150lbs they were too long and I've since shortened down to 165 or so.

good luck and have fun  :D

I had the 185 ethics for a season - i'm 6' and around 200lbs on dynafits. They are by far the worst ski's i've ever had - they have around 2" of camber and are pretty stiff. This is all well and good for smooth corn or groomers, and decent on hard alpine snow (they are actually pretty good at steep, hard snow), but in anything soft they are horrendous. In slush or soft corn, it takes quite a bit of work to turn, as you have to aggressively weight to de-camber and make sure you don't nosedive. Its really easy to catch a tip on breakable crust due to the camber too. In powder, they just are not any fun for similar reasons. To top it all off, they are pretty heavy skis! I am partial to softer flexing skis however, so this might just all be me...
