Got kids? Do they want to learn the great sport of freeheel skiing and having adventures in the woods? Then check out the Junior Nordic Program. The JNP is a progressive year-to-year program for Nordic skiing for kids starting at 4 years of age and going to high school. Now in its 12th year, the JNP helps turn about 70 kids per year into freeheel skiers. Information and a galley of pictures from last year can be found on the JNP website:

This is not a tele program -- although it is true that by age 10 most JNP kids can do a mean tele on the blue runs on their skinny skis. This is an all-round freeheel skills and adventure program. We teach classic (from age 4), skate (from age 7) and tele (from age 8/9). About 1/3 of the time is spent off-trail. The JNP is also has a nordic junior racing component for older kids who want to race. The JNP is run through the Summit by Washington Alpine Club and Snoqualmie Nordic Club nordic/tele instructors.

Dates
Treasure Trails session #1 (age 4-6) January 10, 17, 24, 31
Treasure Trails session #2 (age 4-6) February 7, 21, 28 and March 7
Little Nords and Freeheelers (age 7+): January 10, 17, 24, 31, February 7, 21, 28 and March 7

Information on the Junior Nordic Program can be found on the JNP website:

Programs like this are excellent! Thanks for all the hard work in developing and running programs like this.

My little one is a bit too young now (20 months) but I'll be sure to look into it when the time comes.
