Spider Meadows - would skis make sense now? was created by Rusty Knees
Looking for info or experience in Spider Meadow area. I'm going up there next weekend with a Boy Scout Troop. Does anyone know if there might be patches of snow near there this time of year? Any new snow?
Thanks!

The meadows will be bone dry. Spider Gap should still have a decent amount of snow on it. I think the foot of the "glacier" is at around 6200'. Don't know if you'll find new snow. It's a fairly short hike as long as your load is light. 5 miles I think to the end of the meadows. Then another 2 or so to the top of Spider Gap.
Watch out for cracks. The "glacier" does get a few gapers later in the year. Small ones but they'll still ruin your day if ya accidentally find them.

I was in the gap backpacking during the big August rains. There was a nice 1000ft snow field but the hump was ginormous with a 35 pound pack. We were sans skis and going the whole loop to Image Lk and Buck Crk.
IF your boyscouts are big strong bruits and never whine and love to ski and pack super dooper light, they will get into it. :
Ill go back next year with skiers.

Hiked up Carne Mt last Sunday. There looked to be a skiable but skinny strip of old snow on the South side of the gap extending down several hundred feet. I think this used to be referred to as Spider Glacier and it used to be quite significant years ago. I suppose if you must ski you can but as others have said its a bit of hike in. There was new snow on pretty large patches on the higher peaks but they would be quite a scramble.
