I'm looking at buying some Miss Baker AT skis. Can anyone give me some advice on bindings? Is there a binding out there that you can use for lift and backcountry that isn't too heavy, (like my old Fritschis)? Any info would be appreciated

There are probably a lot of threads in the archives worth checking out, but TAY is really slow right now and I'm too lazy to check. I don't know your experience level or plans, and I'm not the most experienced backcountry skier myself, but here's my take:

Your first choice is Dynafit or step-in. Dynafit bindings are much lighter than any other AT binding -- lighter than any of my alpine bindings, even. They require Dynafit compatible boots, however, and aren't as burly if you like hucking big cliffs. They work fine for me, though. Note that the lightest Dynafits don't have lifters, but most do.

If you want step-in bindings, Fritschi, Marker, and Naxo are all making good bindings these days. My wife skis Fritschis and likes them; I've never tried Marker before but they really look to have a alpine "look" to them.

My opinion .I love my dynafits for thier lack of weight, think spring summer skiing . I love my Fritschis for thier quick step in operation in powder and easy conversion from ski to tour and back to ski . I love my Viole hardwares for that certain tele feeling when needed . I don't huck a lot of cliffs just gelandesprung a lot.

My 2 cents

It's always going to be a compromise( ain't that true about most of life) and there are ardent supporters on both sides of the Dynafit and Fritchi side.( Just like politics)

If you want to be an independent, then consider this.

Dynafits, light , terrific  and sometimes fiddly and frustrating in deep snow. Not really made for prolonged lift skiing. I luv mine but I had to learn to luv them. Great for ski touring and ski mountaineering but I admit I have cursed the little F***ers in powder as Telemack stole my line while I was fiddling away.

Fritschi, great for lift skiing and sidecountry  and general touring although I have done very long tours in them as well.( Haute Route, 7 days skinning 6 - hrs per day)
Click and go but heavy compared to Dynafits. I prefer my Fritschi's in winter but prefer my dynafits in Spring. I have never cursed Fritschi's for performance ;only after a long hike carrying them. The weight difference when skinning is not so noticeable IMVHO but you feel it when you are carrying your skis during late season slogs for the goods.

Marker Dukes/Barons/Jester: Heavy AT binding most like alpine bindings. Have received rave reviews but most suitable if you are a hard charging lift skier with most of you BC being slackcountry( lift accessed BC).

Good luck and if you can't make up your mind get two pairs of skis and both type of bindings. We need your spending power to stimulate the economy.

Robie! I thought you were a pure tele guy. I'm so disapponted... but I would still like to gelandesprung with you, if you'll have me, that is.
