It's 33 deg and 100% humidity at Muir right now so there could be some freshies up higher. ;)
Snow level 9500 ft according to forecast.

Freshie's anybody????

I was up on Rainier yesterday, Thurs July 31.   Under morning blue sky and sunshine, there was what I would call an expanded lenticular over the summit... almost a donut formation.

Took a friend up to Camp Muir... Late afternoon the weather moved in and an cloud/wind formation came down lower and lower until it hit Muir.  Clouds/Fog seemed to be flying by at about 50  - 60 mph.  This is what I call nasty.  As we high-tailed it down the mountain (the weather kept following us down)... I wondered how folks at Muir were going to hang onto their tents...  Precip by the time we hit the parking lot about 6:00pm.

I was amazed by all the snow still on the lower slopes, Including the parking lot meadows.. patches but big patches...  Half way up to Glacier Vista, I slipped on some black ice on the paved trail and opened a bleeding wound on my elbow... let it clot up and later cleaned with snow and put two large bandages on it.... (I always carry my little first aid kit).  Point being... that it is still getting cold enough at night to re-freeze melt water at about 5,700 ft.

We were all talking about if the snow was actually going to melt off the lower slope this year...

Muir Snowfield deeply suncupped, but maybe skiable....
