Colman-Deming Route Conditions was created by NMaddox
Hey,
I know Colman-Deming/Roman Wall route is regularly traveled by TAY'ers, so is it still possible to skin from close to the car?
I'm familiar with the route, but only with using the trail up to the toe of the glacier. I'd really like some information if it is possible to cut up the medows and skin directly onto the base. I've heard that it cuts a lot of time in early season.
Thanks!

I was up there last mon and tues... we skied from the car up grouse creek, camped, and then skied from the summit to the car.. there was a few patches on the road to carry skiis and i would assume they are much larger now but you might be able to drive farther up the road at this point.

if you dont know the grouse creek approach.. it starts right behind the toilets at the trailhead and climbs up through the trees trending south and east.. 10 to 15 minutes in the woods and then you come out into the drainage.. its pretty obvious from there.. definately shorter and less hiking than the regular trail.. as you start up the drainage, stay left.. and you will be on the ridge in no time..

Skied the C-D yesterday. Road open to within 3/4 mile of the trailhead. You can still skin from the last road bridge to the outhouse, through the trees to the Grouse Chutes via a plain trail, up the Grouse Chutes and up Baker. If you want to try the climber's trail, the Grouse Creek bridge looks like this:
