St Helen's Climbing Permits was created by Rusty Knees
Regarding climbing permits for Mt. St. Helens...Any body have a good feeling for the following questions? Last year we were down there, and there seemed to be quite a few floating around the climber's bivouac.
Q1. Do you think there's a reasonable chance of getting three of them at the Lone Firs for a weekend?
Q2. What's the penalty for not having one? Likleyhood of getting tagged?
Not that I would ever attempt to bend any rules. :
Of course I should have planned ahead. Of course there are no advance permits available online for weekends. Work sure gets in the way of a good time. I've checked Craig's List, too, and can't find any.
Thanks!

Hey Don- Here are a couple for tomorrow:
Mt. St. Helens Climbing Permits (2) for 6/20/08 - $22
Reply to: sale-725264457@craigslist.org
Date: 2008-06-19, 8:39AM PDT
I have 2 climbing permits for Mt. St. Helens for June 20th. These permits allow you to hike above 4800ft. Will sell them for face value, $22 each. Permits are sold out for this date, as only 100 people are allowed to climb each day.
I would recommend that you call the Lone Fir and talk to them. They would have the best handle on surplus tickets. The climb is in great shape right now. Get down there.

Thanks, Joe. I'll check it out. You guys are the cause of my panic to try and do it this weekend, you know, with your great trip report, and that enticing "cuddling" thing.
It is possible to transfer permits to somebody else, though it's all on the honor system and timing is critical.
Since they're paid for online, and they have no refund policy, AND you pick them up at the Lone Fir restaurant, what has to happen is:
- you pick them up,
- put them in an envelope for either a specific person, or anyone,
- the folks at the store told me they do their best to collect money and hold it in the envelope for the seller.
- Or you time it to meet the person at Lone Firs or at the camp ground and hand off there.
- We've sold extra permits at the campground. (A couple of years ago.)
We're considering going this weekend (either the 21 or 22) and would be glad to buy the permits from you if it was the right day.
