I'm still surprised to find parties doing the Spearhead without at least one light rope. Maybe I'm an old conservative guy, but we put one of our party in a crevasse several yrs. ago and were very happy to have a rope. That is the only time I've needed it in many times of carrying it, but my friend in the hole was quite happy we had a rope. Skip E.

Did she punch through as they were booting up that short saddle? I thought she fell in up higher, on the initial traverse from the Platform-Ripsaw col. The spot in this picture would make more sense, especially if they traversed high after descending the Ripsaw and then booted across the bergshrund (which is what I did when I skied the route last year ... glad we brought the rope!).

That's a really good question. I wish I knew. My route (and the standard route most people take) is lower then the GPS point I marked on the map. I ski across then sidestep with skis up to the R=N col
