Hope to see everyone at Feathered Friends next Thursday, Feb 7 at 7:00 for a presentation by Lowell Skoog on "Skiing the Cascade Crest", a benefit for the Friends of NWAC. Lowell has put together a great presentation about his multi-year effort to ski the entire Cascade Crest from Mt Baker to Mt Rainier. Throughout the presentation, he ties in some history of ski mountaineering in the Cascades with some great old photos and video. It is a great presentation. More information is available on Lowell's website at www.alpenglow.org/ski-history/project/presentations.html .

This sounds great! Thanks for posting. I've been meaning to go to one of Lowell's talks for a while now, but it never fit into my schedule.

Hi everybody,

We got our wires crossed on the timing of Thursday's show. My website (and the announcement posted by Benj) said 7:00 PM. Actually, the program will be:

Thursday, February 7
7:30 PM
Feathered Friends
119 Yale Avenue N., Seattle

Because of this confusion, we'll be having an informal social hour (half-hour really) between 7:00 and 7:30 PM. There'll be plenty of conversation and rumor has it there might even be some beer.

See you then!

Edited to add: Rumor confirmed. There WILL be some beer!

Folks at the Skagit Alpine Club show last night enjoyed skiing above the clouds powered by Zoom. So I'm going to bring a door prize for tonight's show at Feathered Friends--your very own box of Zoom. (Thanks PaulR!)

Come support the NW Avalanche Center ($5 admission) and maybe win this Valuable Prize!  ;)  I hope to see you there!

Details:

This is a great presentation from seeing it last night. It's worth making the time to get out to it. The historical movies are very cool.

Zoom is clearly an important and now-neglected backcountry supply, right up there with Voom, which cleans unwanted pink cat tub rings off snow.

Lowell,

Excellent presentation! Thanks so much doing all the work to gather this historical data before it all disappears. The old movies were awesome especially the one about skiing from the cabin near Lyman Lake.
