1/23/08 Ski Hyak

Does anybody know if its ok to skin-up Hyak Ski Area, I'm passing over from the Eastside and a little climb and ski would be a nice break for both me and the dog, I'm assuming the ski hill is still closed...correct me if i'm wrong. pn

Hyak is only open on Saturday and Sunday plus any midweek holidays. When the area is closed, it is a popular place to skin and ride.

I did some laps there today, testing a new pair of boots, and no one said anything. In fact, I took a couple of runs at Summit West with the groomers going and people working at the base and no one said anything.

Hyak is open Fri-Sun, but lift operation is Sat-Sun (Friday is Nordic and they will not allow dogs during operation). Any non-holiday day from Mon-Thurs should not be a problem.

Hiking during regular operation is usually ok, w/o the dog though.

I also ski Hyak often when it's closed. I would think the only issue, if any, is parking. Last time I was there, people were getting stuck all over the unplowed lot.
