Where would you go? was created by Dicey
If you had the opportunity for a fri-sat overnight trip this weekend?
I'm thinking mazama ridge, herman saddle, or mt st helens.
Looking for best snow/weather/avi forecast, and I can't decide.
I've also never camped in the Baker area (in winter) so I'm looking for suggestions as to good camp spots...

Thanks!

I did a fun 2 night trip into the Jove Peak area a couple of years ago -- that's an option. A few avy concerns to consider on the way in, but it's a beautiful spot that's pretty accessible. You can camp right at the base of Jove and ski the south face the next day, conditions permitting. With this snowpack, there's also a lot of good looking tree skiing back there.

There's a neat little bench below and just east of The Castle at about 6000 ft on the north facing aspect of the Tatoosh that looks down on Reflection Lakes... actually room for 3 or 4 tents.  Clean lines above from the ridge right down into camp make for a natural for clear night moonlight skiing into camp for hot chocolate or other more adult oriented hot drinks.
Relatively easy access; safe approach and location for high avy danger.

Lots of folks camp around Artist Point at Baker. For more privacy, out on Huntoon Point?
The Burgdorfer guide mentions camping around Lake Ann. Lines look good out there.

personally, i wouldn't camp on the herman saddle or artists point on a weekend because there are bound to be so many people around. heading farther out to the colman pinnacle or lake ann would be much better, are only a few hours farther, and are great spots.

Mt Pilchuck is awesome!

I've camped about half-way up the old ski area on a bench that is safe from avi danger and has good access to awesome skiing (and tree skiing if the open slopes prove unstable) Furthermore the slopes are north facing and thus snow quality is very well preserved... There is some windloading and less consolodation so be careful if you go.

But the decents are amazing: Wide open bowls 25-40 degrees, various chutes, rollers, and gladed tree skiing as well are options.
