Snowmobiles: Rentals? was created by savegondor
So two questions:
I love the quiet of touring. Is it wrong to want to use a snowmobile to access really remote areas via nfs roads?
So if you don't hate me for writing this: Does anybody know of a place that rents snowmobiles...say...in Ellensburg, Cle Elum region, or Levenworth?

Salmon La Sac has snowmobile rentals. I'd guess you might find some in Ronald and Cle Elum too..... Oh, try Easton. That place is crawling with Snowmobiles.

I don't think there's anything wrong with it. It would certainly open up a lot more options. But, rentals are super expensive. They usually run close to $200/day.

And where are you going to park it, they are not like snowshoes that fit in the backpack!
Best bet is find a friend who has one or hitch a lift with some of the sledders in the are, they might be more than happy to tow you. I'm sure there is a sledder website you could contact like the Cle Elum Ridgeriders who may be heading out an FS road to give a lift?? For $200 a rental you would almost be better off getting a cat skiing day instead....

Last spring while on a ski trip near Valdez, it was a regular occurance to see a snowmobiler with skis or a board strapped to the back blasting up the slopes above Thompson Pass....once they were at the top, they'd give their snowmobile a little push and send it ghostriding down the hill and then ski down after it.
Advantages to having uncrowded treeless slopes.... I don' think there are many places around here where that technique would work.

If you want to use sleds to tour, just hit me up. I got three. If you want to rent sleds your best bet is cascade playtime rentals.

In my opinion there is nothing wrong with using a sled to acces the backcountry as long as its permtitted. Some areas like alpine lakes widerness, it would not be acceptable by any means. I usually goto to baker with the sleds.
Oh the rentals are about 200/per day, but dont forget you need a $500 deposit on each sled.
