Thanks for the info gang. We pulled the plug due to weather and avy prognosis. I do look forward to a trip in there later in the season. Perhaps a TAY contingent can invade the Vancouver folks turf...I will be up at whistler for a spell in a few weeks and may try a day trip recon to Keith's hut. I wish we had more BC huts down here.

Ah Elfin Lakes. Brings back memories of a trip there many years ago.
Came in on Christmas Day for a few days. The first thing we saw when we arrived was a dog drinking out of the community water pot. Later a mom helped her toddler to pee yet again right outside the door. Next day a fellow skiied in carrying a puppy inside his jacket. Every morning thereafter he would search the floor to scoop the puppy's poop.
One night we were serenaded all night long by various dogs howling at each other. I seem to remember one was a female in heat. I had nearly drifted off to sleep when one frustrated occupant yelled at the top of his lungs - WILL SOMEONE SHUT THOSE DOGS UP!!! Anyone asleep before wasn't anymore.
On our last night a kid vomited in his sleeping bag. Mom scurried downstairs to rinse the bag in, yep, the community water pot.
We left New Year's Eve. As we passed the throngs coming in to overfill the hut, I've never been so grateful for a trip to be over.

Alpenrose~
Thanks for the less than pleasant report. I guess it can really depend on the community there in from trip to trip. Is it so assessable that toddlers and ill-mannerd dogs are the norm? Or was this simply the worst of your experiences up there? Did you go back?

I spent a weekend 4 or 5 years ago at the Elfin Lakes Shelter in the spring and it wasn't that bad. There were half a dozen other people there besides us and everybody kept pretty quiet, but I guess it would really depend on who was there.

For those who are unfamiliar with the Elfin Lakes shelter, here are a couple of photos taken in April,2006. The visible doorway is actually to the upper floor (sleeping area). Geographic features in the background include the Gargoyles, the Saddle, Little Diamondhead, the Opel Cone, the Tent, the Sharksfin and Mt.Atwell. There are 3 TAYers in the last photo; how many can you name?

I can name 'em all but I won't admit it.
Thanks for putting those up again; one of the best trips I've done.
