That price is the 1st time I've seen it less than $149 bucks. My split works but it could have been a lot neater and tighter.
They say use a wood say but there are metal insert to go through so I used a masonry / metal edge saw. I would use this but make sure you use a table saw. Also so the blade doesn't warp, adjust the depth of the cut so it only just cuts through the board. This is very important so that the cut doesn't wash out and create an unsightly "gap" and also so the blade doesn't shear in the centre part.
My second tip is when you are putting the main board clips on, do them 1 at a time and squeeze the board together when you stick the "sticker" on. Same deal with the tip clips.
I also only had metric drill bits, use english (9/32 inch" etc) so the hardware fits perfectly. Trying to round a hole to the right size is not the best trick.
Don't try and use a locknut for the tip clip as you won't get your skins over them properly, flare the rivet out per instructions. I've yet to figure out a logical way to do this but won't be long....
Also, I had flow bindings on my 1st trip and they suck. Heavy and actually a pain to get into. Stick to a ratchet system and get the crampons too, the home split has no edge and any small patch of ice is near impossible to get over.
Good luck.
Haggis!

Thanks for the link! I'd like to buy a kit now, but I think I better wait until after christmas or my wife will kill me.
I found step-by-step photo's and description from someone who has installed the kit on their board. FYI

I split my own deck 3 seasons ago now. It is still holding up pretty well. I never took the time to overfill the inserts and whatnots as if the snow your after is ideal, I didn't think I would notice the lag/drag from 6 T-inserts and I don't. I have had to re-apply the epoxy to the exposed sidewalls once. I likely have 60 or so days on it and its still solid. Took me about 4 hours start to finish not including epoxy, sand, dry repeat cycles. Here is a link to the the MOD-DIY thread over at splitboard.com.
Good luck....PS use a circular saw w/ thinnest (new) carbide blade you can find.

I've done a couple DIY splits. Still in use today. Ive got the process pretty refined. When the board is together you cant even tell its a split. The hardest part is spliting it. Use a tablesaw and a straigtedge. Make sure the straightedge is at least double the length of you board. If you need any suggestions or help, feel free to email me.
