Fritschi Ski Crampons was created by NMaddox
I have a question for all those AT skiers out there sporting Fritschi freerides.

I bought fritschi ski crampons and, maybe I am missing something, but when I put them on, they barely reach the snow! When I've got the heel risers up, they don't come close to touching the surface, which means that they are of little/no use.

I've had them for a while, but I tried them out for the first time a few weeks ago up at Chinook Pass and they were worthless.

My splitboarding buddy has crampons that can attach directly to his board or he has the option of attaching them to the binding. My question is, can I do that?

For a binding that is so perfect in every way, how could they mess up so badly on the crampons?

Sorry if this is a dumb question and I am totally missing the point, but what is the use of crampons that don't touch the snow?

Any ideas?

Yep, it's a problem. Here's one potential fix (probably not the one you'd like to hear!):

I can see that being a problem for some in theory. The same is true with the Dynafit set up.  If the crampon is really necessary, I would never try and climb with my lifters up more than one position.  In this setting on hard snow or ice you will get plenty of purchase.

I am afraid that you are not missing anything Nick.  I have resigned to choosing the crampons or the risers.  Often I would opt for an effective ski crampon and heel risers but it simply isn't in the cards for us.  When ski crampons are necessary, we stock freeride riders are just limited to the first (possibly second) riser setting.  Mine mostly help me look cool hanging on the back of my pack.  I need all of the help that I can get. ;)

Thanks for the input. I was hoping to not get that response, but I'm sure I'll be having fun using heel risers or not.

Nick

P.S. Originally, if it came to this, I was thinking that I could weld/extend the Fritschi crampons and make several pairs, thus having one set for each riser setting. Having 5 pairs hanging of your pack in various lengths would definitely boost the "cool" rating. It would also be costly and weigh me down enough so much that I couldn't keep up with the crowd. :)

So much for technology! :)
