Light touring gear for kids? was created by sastrugi slicer
I'm looking for on-off track touring gear for my 9 and 11 year olds
and I'm disappointed at what I see. I hate to give up on the 75 mm
standard since it would allow more flexibilty getting into tele as
they get older but there are so few choices for leather or leather and
fabric 75 mm boots - everything is NNN out there. My older girl is in
adult sizes so there are a few more options but for younger kids all I
can find are Alpina Blazer JRs, which I think are crap after renting
them numerous times. It's been a long, slow death for 75 mm but I hate
to give up. I like the reliability of 75 mm, the option to move up to
light plastic boots for turns and the fact that we can interchange
gear if since we already have a few skis mounted with 75 mm bindings. Anyone know of places to get good light to
moderate 75 mm boots anymore?

Try Marmot in the back corner where they have a lot of old stuff, some used. Often these items are off sizes. Therefore lots of things that are on the small side, or extra large. They have a lot of old leather 75mm boots in small sizes. They are new and in very good shape. I don't know if you will find all that you need, but I know that my 11 year old boy has feet larger than his mother's right now and there are definitely sizes in that range. Maybe you will find stuff for your 9 year old.
Good luck picking through all the stuff.

Yes, I've gleaned some good items at Marmot before, now I live too far away to get to a lot of the good second hand spots like Second Ascent. Online here and there are odd sizes of things but so far not the right combination of size and quality. I'll probably have to go with NNN in the smaller gear, but it bugs me because I would prefer the 75 mm.
