Need new skins for BD Havocs-any recommendations? was created by PowderToThePeople
I saw the post below re: BD Lights vs. Ascensions. And climbingskinsdirect. Does anyone have any input. I dropped enough on the skis I don't want to skimp on the skins.

Black Diamond offers skins that are precut for their skis. That is what I would do. The current ascension skins seem to have a very nice weight. They are not as thick as the original purple ones, but have just a little more beef than the glidelites. So, get the precut orange "gold" colored skins. You can order direct from BD.

Just looked at BD website and they don't mention their precut skins anymore. I am sure they would precut them, as would a good shop. I have used G3, BD ascension and Glide lites and they all work and wear well.

I've been recently unimpressed with the longevity of GlideLite glue, for what that's worth. The skins themselves are fine, with a good attachment system, but the glue on the two pair that I just redid was only 2-3 years old. I've got other pairs that are that age (G3s and Ascensions) that are nowhere near as bad. My two cents. The GlideLite's attachment system may make it worth getting, just be prepared to get them reglued (or DIY) in a year or two.

I went thru the same dilemma you are going thru last year and decided on the BD clipfix skins. I bought them from Eastern Mountain Sports as they had the best deal around, as of last year. Be sure not to skimp on the sizing, I believe they reccomend the 110 size. They cut down perfectly for me and covered all of my midsection, tail and most all of my tip, so skinning is now a breeze with them getting full tack on the snow over the whole surface of my ski. Enjoy those Havocs, they are a hard chargin' ski and whatever work you put in they will return in spades.

Are you sure about that? I thought that only the color and the tip attachment changed when they went from purple to gold.

Just looked at BD website and they don't mention their precut skins anymore.

The current GlideLite STS skins are exactly the same as the current Ascension STS skins except for the backing (and the color), so glue longevity should be exactly the same.
