Hi Michael,
I went to the page you referenced before ( www.3dmaptour.com ) and it took me to the following Microsoft site:
maps.live.com/?wip=9000
I started following the instructions. Step 2 says, "Make sure you're signed in with your Windows Live ID." That's where I bailed. Microsoft should remove this instruction if it's not necessary to try out the beta.
The other thing that irritated me is that the setup program downloaded a LARGE amount of stuff from the web without telling me how many megabytes it was or where it was going on my disk. When I removed the beta using "Add/Remove Programs" the Control Panel said it was only 10MB, but the download took much longer than that, so now I don't know how much junk I've added to my disk or how to get rid of it.
I may give it another look later...

Nice video. I may try to install on my kids PC (because of the issues Lowell mentioned) and give it a shot.
Thanks for the video Michael (and the warning Lowell).

If you go to
maps.live.com
, you will be able to navigate maps without having to sign-in. If you want to explore maps in 3D it will ask you to do a download to your PC, but still no sign-in is required.
The Passport account (Live ID) is only needed when you create your own collection or want to create your own 3D movie.
Sorry if I was not clear and I hope you will try it out
