Kids freeheel skiing program was created by Eli
Got kids? Do they want to learn the great sport of freeheel skiing and have adventures in the woods? Then check out the Junior Nordic Program. The JNP is a progressive year-to-year program for Nordic skiing for kids starting at 4 years of age and going to high school. Now in its 11th year, the JNP helps turn about 70 kids per year into freeheel skiers. Information and a gallery of pictures from last year can be found on the JNP website:

This is not a tele program -- although it is true that by age 10 most JNP kids can do a mean tele on the blue runs on their skinny skis. This is an all-round freeheel skills and adventure program. We teach classic, skate, parallel and tele techniques. About 1/3 of the time is spent off-trail. The JNP also has a nordic junior racing component for older kids who want to race. The JNP is run through the Summit Nordic Center (at Hyak) by Washington Alpine Club and Snoqualmie Nordic Club nordic/tele instructors.
Dates
Treasure Trails session #1 (age 4-6) January 12, 19, 26, February 2
Treasure Trails session #2 (age 4-6) February 9, 23, March 1, 8
Little Nords and Freeheelers (age 7+): January 12, 19, 26, February 2, 9, 23, March 1, 8
Registration and cost info is on the Junior Nordic Program website:
